BEAUTIFUL HAND CRAFTED ‘SPECIAL’ BOX

GIVEN TO HALLE KENDALL ON HER 10TH BIRTHDAY

This special box was given to me in September 2000, in gratitude, after the Sydney Olympics, where I was a volunteer.   Our training spanned eighteen months and there were (I think) 180,000 of us representing our country.  I was one of 200 chosen from those 180,000 to volunteer with the VIP’s, and underwent additional training, to be the right hand person to the Prime Ministers, Kings and Queens, Olympic Royalty, and many others.   During this spectacular Games, I was the Protocol Assistant to Senor Ottavio Cinquanta, Member of the International Olympic Committee, and President of the International Olympic Ice Skating Federation.

It was six weeks of GLORY!  After the birth of our son, Joshua, this was the most spectacular time of my life.  I got to serve Australia, Our Land, and take care of a VIP and got to see SO MANY of the Olympic events, including Kathy Freeman, Ian Thorpe, and so many others.

Mr. Cinquanta’s wife gave me this box as a symbol of her gratitude for the service I provided for her and her husband:  I was with them fourteen hours a day for six weeks and never failed to deliver on anything they needed or desired.   I so excelled, that Cinquanta himself presented me with a gold medallion on a chain, saying ‘This is your Gold Medal for being the BEST Protocol Assistant EVER in an Olympic Games I have attended in over thirty years’

I was very, very proud.   You can see my name inscribed on one of the hundreds of poles at the Olympic Centre in Homebush which honoured the Sydney Volunteers – the Games were said to be “THE BEST OLYMPIC GAMES EVER” by the President of the International Olympic Committee.  I also wrote a story for the book written about the Olympic Games.  I was fortunate to stand alongside Olivia Newton John as she carried the flame in Sydney.
